What does IPMS stand for and what is it? IPMS - International Plastic Modellers Society - an International organisation consisting of local and national chapters of hobbyists interested in building plastic model kits. The first chapter was established in the United Kingdom in 1963. Although the society originally focused on plastic model kits, the evolution of kit building and manufacturing has seen IPMS embrace many forms of scale model building media to include not only plastic, but multi-media kits, resin kits, cast metal, etc
What is Scale Model Show 2013? Scale Model Show 2013 is being hosted by the Auckland branch of IPMS New Zealand. It is an opportunity for our club to display and promote the hobby of scale model building to the public. Demonstrations of modelling techniques will be part of the show along with building sessions for ages 7 to 16. During the show an Open Modelling Competition and an IPMS Modelling Competition will be held - this is where all modellers can have their kits judged by experienced judges and potentially win trophies and prizes.
When is the show? Saturday 21st September from 11am - 6pm and Sunday 22nd September from 9am to 4pm.
Where is the show? The show is being held at the Mount Eden War Memorial Hall, 487 Dominion Road, Balmoral, Auckland.

Can I enter a model into the competition if I'm not a member of IPMS or any other club? Yes - any non-IPMS member is eligible to enter the Open Modelling Competition
What models can be entered? Any models that meet the competition guidelines as published here.
How do I enter? Enter online by completing the online entry form found here, or by printing the form and emailing to IPMSAuckland@gmail.com or by printing the form and bringing it along on Saturday 21st September between 9am and 11am.
Are there categories for the less experienced and junior modeller? Yes - there is a Junior category for modellers aged up to 12 and an Intermediate category for ages 12-16.
Are there any trophies? Yes - there will be trophies and prizes for the various categories.
Is there anything else to see? Yes - there will be models being built, demonstrations of modelling techniques (airbrushing, photo-etch, detailing, etc) along with the Airfix build and take sessions for ages 7-16. There will be a number of retailers present for that essential impulse buy and various other displays of interest to the modeller at large. |
