Hi and welcome to the IPMS Auckland website, home of The Scale Model Show!
The Scale Model Show is all about scale plastic modelling and it will be the place to be if you are interested in model making and plastic kits or are just looking for an interesting day out with the family. This year's show will be the biggest of its kind ever held in Auckland and a “must-see” event, with something to inspire everyone from seasoned pros to 7-year olds wanting to build their very first kit.
The show will feature displays of models built by club members, IPMS National model competition, public model competition, modelling workshops, kids’ “Build and Take” sessions, model photography and a range of retailers specialising in model making supplies. On display will be a huge range of plastic models from aircraft, vehicles, ships and figures to sci-fi and dioramas, as well as special-theme displays.
Modellers of all ages and abilities will enjoy attending the workshops offering tips and tricks on a variety of topics including weathering, decaling and airbrushing. Workshops will run throughout the day in the workshop zone, so be sure to check the show schedule so as not to miss out on your special interest.
We're also hosting the IPMS National Model Competition, giving you a chance to see the very best model making that NZ has to offer. And, for the general public, we'll be holding an Open Competition with great Airfix prizes for anyone who would like to submit their own models. Note that registrations and acceptance of models for the competitions start at 9:00 on Saturday and carry on until the show opens at 11:00.
Finally the show will round off on Sunday with a grand prize giving ceremony at 2.15pm, where trophies, certificates and prizes will be awarded for the best-of-the-best.

We are also pleased to present several kids’ “Build and Take” sessions, thanks to our friends at Airfix. Here, children (7-16 yrs old) can try their hand at building an Airfix kit under the expert guidance of IPMS “old hands”. What better way to get into the hobby? And they even get to take their kit to finish at home! This is always a popular event so we recommend registering early at the information stand to avoid disappointment.
